Tillington suppliers selected to ‘Meet the Buyer’

The Giftware Association is delighted to announce the successful applicants for our exclusive ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on 17th May with The Tillington Group of Garden Centres. The Tillington group have 11 garden centre chains across 36 stores throughout the UK which include Frosts, Webbs, Van Hage and Bents so this is a fantastic opportunity for all those who were chosen.

The response to this event has been overwhelming, with our members jumping at the prospect to apply. The Tillington Group’s task of choosing only 18 companies from this huge line-up has been tremendously difficult due the quality and diversity of products on offer. Each application has received much deliberation and careful consideration from The Tillington Group, and we can confirm that the final 18 are…

“Meet the Buyer is a fantastic way for us to connect suppliers to the right buyers,” says Simone, our business development manager, who has been hard at work facilitating the event. “The Tillington Group have some very keen buyers lined up to meet our suppliers, and we’re certain they will see something they love.”

The lucky finalists will be invited to The Tillington Group’s AGM, held in the beautiful Lake District, where they will present their products in a specially designed showcase. Attendees will have quality time with each buyer to pitch their products and ranges, with the Giftware Association team there to facilitate the day.

There is only one week to go for you to submit your entry to The Giftware Associations Meet The Buyer day with the Tillington Group of garden centres, with the deadline date this Friday 6th April.

About the Tillington Group
The Tillington Group is an association of some of the best independent garden centre businesses in the UK. There are currently 11 member companies with a total of 38 garden centres, and all members will be represented by at least one buyer at this event. For further information, and details of the garden centres that make up the Tillington Group, please take a look at the Tillington website.

All Tillington garden centres sell a wide range of gifts, including books, cards, toys, home furnishings, fashion accessories and seasonal items.

A beautiful setting
This year, the event will be held at the beautiful Low Wood Bay resort in the Lake District, on Thursday, the 17th of May. It will run from 11am until 1pm, with setup starting at 9.30am on the day.

Attendees will have quality time with each buyer to pitch their products and ranges. The Giftware Association team will be there to facilitate the day and to make sure that buyers can get contact details for the suppliers they want to follow up with.

How to apply
Space at this meeting is extremely limited, and we want to make sure that both the buyers and suppliers present make the most out of their day, so attendance will not be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Instead, the Tillington buyers will decide on a maximum of 20 suppliers to meet with, and all applications will be considered equally.

Applications to join this exclusive event entail a £30 administration fee. There is no cost to attend the event itself, except for travel, and we will arrange and pay for accommodation for those who are lucky enough to be chosen to attend.

Please note: we do not have any influence or control over the selection of suppliers. The Tillington Group makes those decisions entirely, and we are not party to their decision-making process. We can guarantee that all submitted and paid applications will be delivered to the Tillington Group for their perusal.

MEET THE BUYER – A SUCCESS FOR ALL – AND MORE TO FOLLOW

HIGHTLIGHT TILLINGTON

Our recent ‘meet the buyer’ event, in collaboration with the Tillington Group, was a great success for both the Tillington buyers, and the suppliers who attended.

With seventeen suppliers in attendance, each meeting buyers from across the eleven garden centres represented at the meeting, it was bound to see a few new commercial relationships formed. “We were optimistic,” says our CEO Sarah, “and rightly so – everyone came away with something.”

Every single supplier present received pledged orders from at least three buyers – and every buyer pledged at least five orders. “This is unprecedented among previous Meet the Buyer events,” says Sarah, “and a very welcome development.”

Sarah was not the only attendee impressed by the success of the day. “We had an amazing day,” says one supplier who attended, “This is definitely the best type of event for meeting potential new customers.” Another observed that the day was “an excellent way to work… in a focused and friendly environment.”

Without the pressure or expense of larger trade fairs, a more relaxed, even luxurious day can be spent talking about the best new products in friendly company. “This is the sort event the GA should be running. A small but busy, friendly day, where connections can be made, and even some business can get done,” adds Sarah.

Do not despair if you missed out on the event – we were overwhelmed with applications for this one, and it would have been impossible to get everyone in front of the buyers. We will be running Meet the Buyer events throughout the year, so look out for announcements.

The next will in fact be hosted by us, here in Birmingham, featuring buyers from a range of retailers; John Lewis, Choice Marketing, and independent retailers such as Heritage of Thornberry are among those promising to attend.
