Tillington suppliers selected to ‘Meet the Buyer’

Social-The-Tillington-Group-Meet-The-Buyer (002)

The Giftware Association is delighted to announce the successful applicants for our exclusive ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on 17th May with The Tillington Group of Garden Centres. The Tillington group have 11 garden centre chains across 36 stores throughout the UK which include Frosts, Webbs, Van Hage and Bents so this is a fantastic opportunity for all those who were chosen.

The response to this event has been overwhelming, with our members jumping at the prospect to apply. The Tillington Group’s task of choosing only 18 companies from this huge line-up has been tremendously difficult due the quality and diversity of products on offer. Each application has received much deliberation and careful consideration from The Tillington Group, and we can confirm that the final 18 are…

“Meet the Buyer is a fantastic way for us to connect suppliers to the right buyers,” says Simone, our business development manager, who has been hard at work facilitating the event. “The Tillington Group have some very keen buyers lined up to meet our suppliers, and we’re certain they will see something they love.”

The lucky finalists will be invited to The Tillington Group’s AGM, held in the beautiful Lake District, where they will present their products in a specially designed showcase. Attendees will have quality time with each buyer to pitch their products and ranges, with the Giftware Association team there to facilitate the day.

We would like to thank everyone who applied to attend this exclusive event, whom we hope to see at future events that we hold.

FUTUREPROOFING YOUR BUSINESS

Future Proof Title

Something we have been talking a lot about recently at The Giftware Association is futureproofing your business; not just for our members, but also for us as an association. It’s important that we share our knowledge of the ever-changing business environment as new technologies emerge, and new government policies are put into place, as well as the ‘often-talked-about-but-no-clear-answers-Brexit’. We can’t predict the future, but we can prepare for it, and we would like to share what the GA has been doing to help our members in the gift and homeware world we support.

Our ‘Meet the Buyer Events’ – We are currently on our 2018 series of ‘Meet the Buyer’ events, and we have had an incredible line-up of buyers so far and as well as keen suppliers. We have reinvigorated our format, creating events where suppliers have 15 to 20 minutes with buyers from garden centres, department stores and galleries all looking for the best new products. Speaking to both buyers and suppliers at these events, the overwhelming consensus is that these days are very productive for both parties and a new way of doing business; and even if there are no firm sales on the day, relationships have been forged and contacts have been shared. We are aiming to organise specialist events in the future with gift food, stationery and jewellery. It’s businesses changing attitudes and adopting new strategies that will truly futureproof your business: always think of evolving and think ‘what got you here won’t always take you there’.

Finance

Financing your Business – There are ever more options for financing your business for the future than ever, but around 80% of businesses still choose to head to a high street bank, resulting in either disappointment or the wrong type of funding. We were recently invited to the House of Lords Finance Committee meeting, bringing along the views of our members and those of the wider industry about how they have found accessing finance for their business. The aim is to take these views and concerns to government and hopefully change policy for the future and spread awareness of all the options available.

GDPR

GDPR & Security – As businesses we are always on the lookout for the newest technologies and how they can help with our daily tasks, but a recent report has stated that these new technologies are opening us up to security risks. With GDPR on the horizon this can be a huge risk to our data; with cyber-attacks on the increase, investing in a robust security system is key. We are also helping spread awareness of GDPR to our members; both the importance of compliance and the tools that can help them. We as an association have also been practising what we preach with a tidy-up of our data, and implementing processes to be in line with the new regulations.

Collaboration

Get Ready to Collaborate – As the business environment gets tougher it’s time for businesses to evolve and adapt and take heed of Henry Ford’s quote: “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” You may have seen our collaboration at Spring Fair with Buy From Shropshire; this gave their members a platform that may not have been possible for them, but it also allowed us to be able to do so much more around the show. It’s not just at shows where collaboration is important; it could be collaborations on product or sharing of knowledge and information. We are all in this together and we are always looking at helping each other out.

If you would like to find out more, our AGM this year will be focussed on futureproofing your business. To book your place get in touch with simone.rose@ga-uk.org

About the Tillington Group
The Tillington Group is an association of some of the best independent garden centre businesses in the UK. There are currently 11 member companies with a total of 38 garden centres, and all members will be represented by at least one buyer at this event. For further information, and details of the garden centres that make up the Tillington Group, please take a look at the Tillington website.

All Tillington garden centres sell a wide range of gifts, including books, cards, toys, home furnishings, fashion accessories and seasonal items.

A beautiful setting
This year, the event will be held at the beautiful Low Wood Bay resort in the Lake District, on Thursday, the 17th of May. It will run from 11am until 1pm, with setup starting at 9.30am on the day.

Attendees will have quality time with each buyer to pitch their products and ranges. The Giftware Association team will be there to facilitate the day and to make sure that buyers can get contact details for the suppliers they want to follow up with.

How to apply

Instead, the Tillington buyers will decide on a maximum of 20 suppliers to meet with, and all applications will be considered equally.

Applications to join this exclusive event entail a £30 administration fee. There is no cost to attend the event itself, except for travel, and we will arrange and pay for accommodation for those who are lucky enough to be chosen to attend.

Please note: we do not have any influence or control over the selection of suppliers. The Tillington Group makes those decisions entirely, and we are not party to their decision-making process. We can guarantee that all submitted and paid applications will be delivered to the Tillington Group for their perusal.

To apply, please download the application form and return it to chris.workman@ga-uk.org by Friday, 6th April.
